The new year brings New Years Resolutions and usually a bunch of change. At least it’s usually a good excuse to try something new and create that “new you” compared to the previous year. I’m sure most of this comes from a couple of months at the end of the year and all the bad habits that we form through the year. This is of course why all the gyms fill up after the new year. Everyone decides this is the year they are going to start to eat better and work out.
After taking some time to examine my daily habits and correlation of my thoughts (good and bad) and feelings (excited and envious), I’m just not pleased with social media’s effects on my daily life. On average I’ve spent 12 hours a week on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. This is over 2 full days a month dedicating my time to swiping up, liking, commenting, watching, and reading.
So, I’ve decided I’m going on a Facebook diet for a month. I’m not sure if it is a diet or detox but I’ve deleted the app from my phone and turned off notifications from my laptop. We will see how I feel after the month and who knows maybe I won’t be back.
I hope that it won’t be hard to give it up or that I get some withdrawal jitters. I’d like to get that time back, be more present in the world and with the people around me. Focus on my new business and the farm and maybe even finally get to more writing.
